World Sea Turtle Day, June 16, is a day used to honor andhighlight the importance of sea turtles. These creatures, like any other creature, are magnificent in their own way.

Temperature plays an important role in the lives of sea turtles. The ocean temperature determines when mating occurs ottshore and when female turtles come ashore to lay their eggs.

If a female turtle crawls onto the beach to lay her eggs and finds a seawall, rock revetment, beach turniture, or other obstacles in her way, she may return to the water without nesting.

Turning off lights is crucial to the survival of baby turtles. After hatchling turtles emerge from the nest, instinct tells them to crawl toward the brightest horizon. On a dark beach, that is the open horizon over the ocean. However, in the presence of man made lighting the hatchlings often follow the glow of these lights and crawl into roadways...
